The grand marshal of a parade is not only the leader of the parade, but also a leader in the community and Mitchel Conley is just that, a leader in Rhine. Conley was selected as grand marshal for the 2013 Pondtown Parade.
“I feel very honored and excited about being Grand Marshal for such a great parade,” said Conley.
Conley is a 78 year old lifelong resident of Rhine. He has operated a successful logging operation for 49 years. He is married to Myrtle C. Conley; they have two children, Ramona Woodard and Dwayne Conley. They have six grandchildren, Slade Woodard, Brandi Dowdy, Lance Woodard, Jennifer Pickle, Ramonica Oxley and Derik Conley. They also have six great grandchildren, Taylor Woodard, Annie Dowdy, Jacob Dowdy, Logan Woodard, Jared Woodard and Ralie Conley.
Conley enjoys fishing, working, and spending time with his family.
“I feel that the festival really brings the community together and brings out the best in everyone,” said Conley.
The Pondtown Parade will take place at two o’clock on Saturday April 6, 2013, during the Pondtown Festival.
